Kearney County Clean Up 2025

The Kearney County Clean-up will be different this year than in years past. There will be dumpsters located at the Kearney County Department of Roads starting Monday May 5th, 2025, until Friday May 9th, 2025. Residents can access the dumpsters from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. (Or until dumpsters are full). There will be no dumping outside of these hours. And no dumping on Saturday. Residents are required to unload their own vehicle into the dumpsters. All items must be placed in a dumpster. No items may be dumped on the ground. Items that will NOT be accepted are tires, yard waste, and household hazardous waste, i.e. NO LIQUIDS.

The drop-off location is at the Kearney County Roads Department at 1124 East 9th Street Minden, Nebraska

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS AND LANDOWNERS OF KEARNEY COUNTY

Nebraska Law Prohibits the following activities in the county road(s) or ditch(s)

  1. Obstructing or injuring the surface of the road or ditch
  2. Farming, cleaning or digging in or on road or within the county right-of-way
  3. Fencing or pasturing of the county right-of-way or ditches
  4. Installing driveways without first obtaining a permit from Kearney County.
  5. Diverting water into the right-of-way and/or blocking or altering the flow of water.
  6. Allowing a pivot irrigation system or any other irrigation system to water the road
  7. Dumping trash, trees, or other debris in the road or ditch.

These activities without the proper permits and/or approval from Kearney County are violations and punishable as crimes. Your cooperation in prohibiting these activities is appreciated for the safety of all. Before you plan to affect a road or ditch, please contact the Kearney County Department of Roads or the Kearney County Board of Commissioners to obtain the necessary permits.

NOTICE

To all landowners and operators. It is illegal to water a public road with a center pivot irrigation systems per Nebraska State Statute §39-301. It is the responsibility of all landowners and operators to ensure the end guns on their center pivots are shutting off before they reach public roads. Any damage to the public road could result in fines and/or payment for the damages that occur. Center pivot owners/operators also assume liability to the traveling public for creating a driving hazard on a public road.

County Clerk Opening
Kearney County is accepting applications for a County Clerk until 12:00 p.m. May 5, 2025 and interviews will be at 10:30 a.m. on May 6, 2025 at the Board of Commissioners regular meeting. Applicant will fill the unexpired term through January 7, 2027.  The County Clerk job includes Secretary to the Board of Commissioners and Board of Equalization, issues licenses, files documents, HR department and pays claims. It also includes the Register of Deeds office that files and keeps track of all real estate documents and the Election Commissioner office which conducts all elections in the County. Benefit package includes retirement, health, dental and life insurance. Kearney County is Seeking a Part Time Deputy County Attorney
The Kearney County Attorney's Office is currently accepting applications for a part time Deputy County Attorney.  This position generally requires office hours 20-30 hours per month, generally on Thursdays, with some on-call responsibilities.  Responsibilities will vary depending on experience and the office’s needs, but will generally focus on juvenile law.  Candidate should have some experience with juvenile law as well as a desire to help juveniles.  Responsibilities vary but will include reviewing evidence to make determinations of the filing of juvenile petitions, and fully handling the prosecution of these cases.  Duties also include covering assigned on-call periods to answer after-hours legal questions from law enforcement and handling coroner matters.
