Roads and Bridges

The Kearney County Road and Bridge Department currently has 16 full-time employees and 2 seasonal employees that are overseen by the Highway Superintendent and are responsible for the construction and maintenance of approximately 788 miles of gravel roads, 60 miles of hard surface (asphalt) roads, 135 bridges, culverts and signs. This includes snow and ice control and vegetation management for the safe travel of roads.

    The Kearney County Road and Bridge Department currently operates nine (9) motor-graders, two (2) semi tractor trailers, three (3) dump trucks, one (1) excavator, one (1) paddle scraper and numerous other equipment to build and maintain roads.

    The Keaney County Board of Commissioners, with the assistance of the Highway Superintendent, prepare and present an annual budget and a One- & Six-Year Road Project Plan which explains the current and future road projects.
