Position: Kearney County Planning Commission Board Member (Volunteer)
Location: Kearney County, Nebraska
Term Length: Remaining Unexpired Term – 2 months (2026) and 3-Years (beginning January 2027)

The Kearney County Board of Commissioners is seeking a civic-minded resident to fill an immediate vacancy on the Planning Commission. If you have an interest in local land use, planning and zoning regulations, and managing area growth, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.
Core Responsibilities:
- Review & Recommend: Evaluate special use permits, zoning text or map amendments, and subdivision plats.
- Comprehensive Plan Alignment: Work alongside local staff and residents to ensure future growth aligns with the county’s Comprehensive Plan.
- Public Hearings: Attend scheduled public hearings to listen to testimony from fellow citizens and applicants.
- Advisory Role: Formulate and deliver structured recommendations to the Board of Commissioners for final action.
Eligibility & Qualifications:
- Must be a resident of Kearney County, Nebraska
- Must be able to regularly attend public meetings held up to once a month in the evening.
- Must be able to attend 2 hours of local or virtual training once per term as mandated by the State of Nebraska
- No prior experience in planning is required; a willingness to learn and commit time to the county’s future is the primary requirement.
- Due consideration given to the distribution of the place of residence of the board members between the unincorporated area of the County and its communities.
